Maroon Hat Hacker Astro

Welcome!

Well hello there ladies and gentlemen (and everyone in between)! Welcome to my new blog!

Whilst it's currently a little bit scuffed (writing blog posts in HTML in a code editor), it's not bad looking, and it's certainly a lot better than blogger (which was what I was using previously). And I can now at least say I now host my own blog, so that's a step in the right direction. My aim is to move to being able to write my blog posts using markdown instead, but whilst I figure that one out, I'll just cope with HTML. With that out of the way...

Who actually am I?

Online I go by Maroon Hat Hacker, although I also just go by Maroon. I'm now a University Student studying Computer Science and Music Production dual honors at Keele University. When I built this website, I was in the later stages of A-Level after learning a bit more about web development from when doing my A-Level project. I've also got plans of doing some streaming, as I generally do like sharing my thoughts, and streaming will probably have more exposure than some random blog that exists on the internet. Regardless, I like writing about random things, so having a blog should also be helpful for me having somewhere to "share" that isn't weirding people out with the pure amount of nerd talk I spew on a regular basis. I usually have an opinion, and a suprising amount of them would be considered "hot takes". However I'm not here to convince you that my way of viewing things is the only way, just to express how I feel about a lot of topics (I still think windows 8.1 was the last good release of windows).

I'm currently using Linux + macOS on my laptops/PC (I use arch btw), don't really like windows all that much, and I have no real reason to use it. Unlike the majority of people, I actually grew up on Mac and Linux, so I've used those systems a lot more than I've used windows 10/11 (and tragically, I've barely ever used windows 7). There was a point where I was really into tiling window managers and custom rices and things, however I've gotten fed up of having to maintain things over and over again, and there's only so many times installing an OS can remain fun, so usually stick with something like GNOME or KDE Plasma (although still rocking Hyprland on my gaming PC). I currently daily drive an Early 2013 Macbook Pro 13" as my laptop that I like to code with, among more casual tasks (reading online, shopping, etc). I do have a Chromebook running Fedora Silverblue, which I currently have as a backup laptop, since it's a rock solid install, just not something I particularly like using. And for my music production, I have a loan Apple M3 MacBook Air running macOS. I could upgrade from my MacBook Pro, but as time goes on, the less motivated I become to replacing it. It mostly works well for 90% of tasks I do, and a true upgrade would cost a pretty penny for me.

Anyway, this is very short, but it's a brief cringe introduction, more posts should follow.
